A study published in Human Reproduction in August 2026 examined vanillin, a flavouring used in some vaping products, in experimental models of human embryonic stem cells.
The researchers observed changes in processes involved in cellular development under laboratory conditions. The finding provides a reason to investigate further how specific aerosol components may interact with developing tissues.
From laboratory research to clinical practice
The results come from experimental models and do not show that vaping during pregnancy produces the same effect in humans. They do, however, add to the rationale for reducing avoidable exposures during pregnancy and for studying the components of vaping aerosols more closely.
