At ESHRE 2026, researchers presented data on cumulative outcomes from IVF cycles using single-embryo transfer. The strategy aims to maintain strong cumulative live-birth outcomes while reducing the need to transfer multiple embryos at once.
The approach is consistent with a stronger focus on safety because transferring one embryo reduces the risk of multiple pregnancy. Results must still be interpreted in the context of age, ovarian reserve, embryo quality and treatment characteristics.
A shift in focus
Conference data do not replace individual clinical assessment or mean that one strategy is appropriate for everyone. They do reflect a broader move toward optimising cumulative outcomes per patient rather than maximising the number of embryos transferred in a single attempt.
