In 2026, two investigational endometriosis tests attracted attention because they could complement traditional clinical assessment. In England and Wales, NICE approved a three-year evaluation phase for EndoSure and Endotest in selected situations where clinical examination or imaging is inconclusive.
Endotest analyses microRNAs in saliva, while EndoSure records electrical signals from the gut using abdominal sensors. Both approaches aim to add information without relying initially on invasive procedures.
An innovation that still needs evidence
Entering an evaluation programme does not mean that these tests replace gynaecological assessment or are appropriate for every patient. Their clinical value, accuracy and ability to shorten diagnostic delays still need further study.
