The 42nd Annual Meeting of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology (ESHRE), held in London from 5 to 8 July 2026, brought together specialists from around the world to discuss advances in reproductive medicine.
Among the updates highlighted by ESHRE were preliminary data from its European IVF-monitoring Consortium: in 2020, almost three out of five IVF and ICSI procedures in Europe used single embryo transfer. The approach aims to reduce multiple pregnancies while maintaining good reproductive outcomes.
Fertility preservation
Another highlighted analysis examined more than a decade of national registry data on elective oocyte freezing and underlined the importance of age at the time of treatment. Age at vitrification remains an important factor when considering future reproductive potential.
Access to treatment
ESHRE also presented an international study suggesting that halving patients’ out-of-pocket fertility-treatment costs was associated with a 2.67-fold increase in births achieved through assisted reproductive technology.
